Celebrating The New Year In Style!

While New York's annual ball-dropping ceremony to welcome the New Year is famous, it is not the only city that has such a tradition. Other places around the country drop objects too - they are just a tad bit unusual.

In the city of Atlanta, located in the Peach State of Georgia, they drop - you guessed it - an 800 lb peach. In the town of Lebanon, Pennsylvania, local bolongna company Weaver-Kutztown drops a 7.5 lb edible bologna. Don't worry, the meat is not just thrown away - it is donated to local charities.

Elmore, Ohio drops meat too, a sausage inspired by another local company, Tank's Meats. In addition to lowering the lit-up 18-ft sausage, they also hold a sausage toss and sausage eating contest. Another Pennsylvanian town, Bethlehem brings down a 25lb fiberglass Marshmallow Peep, the popular Easter treat. The self-named Walleye Capital of the World - Port Clinton, Ohio drops a 600 pound fiberglass walleye fish. Talk about something smelling fishy!

Mount Olive and Dillsburg, both drop pickles on New Year's Eve. In Raleigh they drop a huge copper acorn weighing a whopping 1,250 pounds. This is one nut the squirrels won't want to deal with!

In a state that's know for its dairy products, Plymouth, Wisconsin drops a humongous chunk of cheese. Relax, no mice will attempt to eat this cheese as it's not edible! Easton, Maryland drops a enormous crab in honor of New Year.

And last but not least, New Orleans drops a larger than life gumbo pot. (gumbo is a traditional stew in Louisiana).
