The Kids Science Challenge, sponsored by The National Science Foundation is a nationwide science competition for third to sixth graders to submit experiments and problems for real scientists and engineers to solve.

To enter, kids have to submit an original question, problem or experiment in one of four scientific or engineering categories. They include suggesting a new candy flavor, new ways to keep our water supply clean, suggestions or questions about finding space aliens or proposing a new design for skateboards. The most original question or experiment in each category will win the Grand Prize, which are different for each category, all equally amazing.

For example, the grand prize winner in the Flavors category will tour the Cadbury chocolate flavor lab in New Jersey And host a Ben and Jerry's ice cream party for their entire class, while the grand prize winner for the skateboard design will find himself or herself at a real skateboard workshop in San Francisco And get a skateboard professional to visit and perform for their entire school.

The grand prize winner also receives a number of other cool prizes, including an entire set of The Kids Science Encyclopedia. In addition to the grand prize, there are also prizes for five runner-ups in each category. To view all the prizes go to : www.kidsciencechallenge.com/html/prizes.php.

Kids can enter as individuals or as a group with their classmate or other friends, as long as they have a adult mentor. They can enter an idea in one or all four of the categories - but only one idea per category is allowed. While entries will be accepted until January 31st 2008, the first 1000 entries will receive a free science kit - so go, brainstorm with your family, friends or classmates and send in your questions, ideas or experiment as soon as possible!
