In an attempt to break the world record for "The Largest Barbeque in the World", Uruguay one of South America's smallest countries hosted the world's biggest barbeque party last Sunday.
Over 12,500 barbeque chefs grilled up 26,400 pounds of beef beating the previous record of 17,600 pounds set by Mexico in 2006.
The 1.5 km grill was so big that firemen had to be called in to make sure it was lit safely.
Then the chefs adorned in white aprons and chefs' hats barbequed their way into the Guinness Book of World Records, using over 6,000 tons of coal and 1,500 barbeque stands. Once the record was established over 20,000 Uruguayans celebrated the feat by feasting on the yummy meat.
The event was organized by the National Meats Institute to highlight Uruguay's chief export - beef, and also to highlight this small country that is sandwiched between its more famous neighbors, Argentina and Brazil.
