Have you ever been so engrossed in doing something (TV doesn't count!), that you ignore your family and friends? Mexican artist Fielmon Trevino says that is what happened to him, when he was sketching the largest drawing in the world, to fulfill his lifelong dream of being in the Guinness Book of Records.
In fact Trevino was so focused, that he even forgot to sleep, eat or drink, whilst drawing the quarter mile-long picture, and had to be hospitalized seven times for dehydration (lack of water), heart and kidney problems, as well as fainting spells, all thanks to being in a stuffy room for long periods of time.
However, he persevered from July 2004 to August 2005, working for over 6,600 hours (275 days), and going through 800 pencils to complete the epic drawing.
But Trevino's hurdles were not over yet. In order to submit his drawing to the Guinness Book of Records for consideration, he had to find a sponsor to display his work. It took him almost two and half years to obtain sponsorship, finally provided to him in March 2008, by the Regimontana University in Mexico.
In the end it was all worth it - for he achieved his lifelong dream. His quarter-mile long drawing of the heart and circulatory system, intertwined with doves, geometric shapes (such as squares, triangles and circles) and hundreds of yards of tangled tubes, was recognized by the Guinness Book of Records as the largest pencil drawing in the World!
