An Unusual Birthday Celebration

Fin Keleher, knew exactly what he wanted for his eleventh birthday - An entry in the Guinness Book of Records. And it seems, that the determined youngster might have achieved his dream, by placing more live snails on his face, than anyone else in the world.

It all began a year ago, when the Utah resident received the latest edition of the Guinness Book of Records. After poring over it for days, the then 10-year old decided that the one record he could break was putting live snails on his face. After all, that did not require special skills and he only had to do it for ten seconds - Plus the slimy creatures did not gross him out.

Also, Fin figured that since the record in the book was for 8 snails, he would just have to place just a few more achieve his goal. However, by the time the paperwork was filled and sent to the folks at Guinness, the bar had been raised - to 36 snails at first and then last week to 37. Added to that, was the fact, that the snails all had to be placed on his face in less than one minute.

But Fin was not deterred. On Saturday, surrounded by his family and close friends, the tween set out to fulfill his dream. It took Fin four attempts - but he finally did it, beating the latest record by not one but 6 extra snails, by placing a total of 43 slimy snails on his face for a full 10 seconds!

The family has sent the video and pictures to the folks at Guinness, and are now waiting with abated breath to see if Fin's name and snail-covered face will appear in the 2010 Book of Records!
