A nine-year old boy and his parents are grateful for television - For it is from Discovery Channel's 'Man vs. Wild', that Grayson Wynne learnt about leaving a trail, which is what helped rescuers find him in Utah's Ashley National Forest.
It all happened on the eve of Fathers Day, when Grayson got separated from his family, while walking in the forest toward a camping site close to Daggert Lake . Soon it was dark and Grayson knew there was no chance of him being found during the night.
Though scared, the little boy tried to keep his cool and think how his hero Bear Grylls would have handled the situation. He recalled from one of the episodes that leaving a trail behind would help anybody who was looking for him.
That's exactly what the Grayson decided to do. Ripping his yellow rain jacket into pieces, he started to tie it around the trees he walked by, just as he had seen on the television show.
Meanwhile, his parents had alerted the authorities and they were out in full force with helicopters and sniffer dogs, scouting the forests.
Though it took them all night to find him, the police said they would have never been able to track him down even in the daylight, had it not been for the trail he had left behind
The nine-year old is now safe and healthy and ready to watch the next episode of 'Man Vs. Wild' - See how useful television can be? Now if you could only convince your parents!
