While Leonard da Vinci's Mona Lisa looks beautiful with her shy mysterious smile, she is not much of conversationalist. However, the 'new' Mona Lisa is quite the opposite. She waves to her fans and is happy share fun anecdotes about her life, if asked. The catch? You have to be able to understand Mandarin-Chinese!
The interactive version of this classic icon is part of the 'World Classic Interactive Arts' exhibition, a collection of 61 classical paintings and sculptures, all recreated with with 3-D holograms and voice recognition devices.
The brainchild of an art gallery in South Korea, the exhibit took 400 engineers and artists over two years to create at an estimated cost of $7million USD.
Among other interactive paintings is another da Vinci classic, Last Supper. Here Jesus can be seen chatting with his apostles, while moving the table around. Even the Greek and Roman statues are interactive, brazenly holding conversations with visitors.
The floating exhibit is currently in Beijing, China, where it is scheduled to stay until November, before moving on to the cities of Hangzhou and Shanghai. Hopefully, they will eventually make their way to our neck of the woods!
