After being cooped in a collapsed mine for 69 days, experts were not sure how long it would take for the 33 Chilean miners to resume their normal life.
However, as usual they have proved to be more resilient then anybody would had thought. Just two weeks after being hoisted up, they have not only recovered, but are strong enough to challenge the rescuers to a soccer match.
On October 25th, after being honored by the president at his Palace in Santiago, the miners participated in a 40-minute ball game against some of the rescuers. To allow all 33 miners to participate, team Esperenza, (Spanish for hope), used rolling substitutions. Led by former professional soccer player turned miner Franklin Lobos, the miners started off with a bang, leading the game with a score of 2-0.
However, halfway through the game, they ran out of steam and ended up losing to Team Operation Rescue, which was led by none other than Chilean President, Sebastian Pinera.
But neither teams were concerned about the final outcome - All that mattered was that they had not only survived their terrible ordeal, but that they were almost back to normal again.
