In the technology savvy world we live in, file sharing has become a way of life. However, would you plug in your computer to a random USB port and upload or download files placed there by total strangers? German architect and artist Aram Bartholl thinks people will and so far, he has proved to be right.

The New York resident's latest initiative 'Dead Drops', a term generally associated with espionage involving the secret transfer of files or items, involves installing USB drives into walls, buildings and curbs at five New York City locations.

Passerby's can download any files that are present in the USB sticks, including the one that explains the project. According to Mr. Bartholl, so far he has seen music, movies and even art downloaded onto the drives.

Mr. Bartholl is hoping to spread his project worldwide and is now working on a tutorial about how to install these into walls and buildings. So don't be surprised if you suddenly spot a USB stick peeking out from the wall of your neighborhood produce store!
