A 40-year old man is alive today, thanks to a Web Camera on and an extremely observant woman, who happened to be looking at it, 350miles away.
The incident occurred at St. Peter Ording, a popular seaside resort off the coast of the North Sea, known for its stunning sunsets. The man, who was visiting, apparently stepped on the ice to get a better picture of the setting sun, when his foot slipped, throwing him into the icy waters of the North Sea.
Not knowing what to do, he started to flash his camera, hoping that someone would see him and rescue him - And someone sitting in front of her computer, 350 miles away did!
A nature lover, in Westerwald, Germany, happened to log on to the St. Peter Ording website, which is equipped with a live camera, at the exact same time with the same intention - to admire the sunset. Noticing the flashing camera, she called the local police, who in turn alerted the officials at resort. They immediately sent in a rescue squad who pulled the man out of the -20 degree Celsius North Sea waters.
Amazingly enough, the man had to be treated only for mild exposure before being released from the hospital. He plans to visit his guardian angel and thank her personally, as soon as he can!
