For almost a month, we have heard nothing but bad news about the oil spill in the Gulf Coast. Now, finally there is some good news. Yesterday, BP PLC. managed to cap one of the wells and has now begun the process of channeling the gushing oil into a pipe and onto a tanker.
The company's first attempt to attach the pipe on May 16th, was only partially successful as the tube dislodged shortly after it was inserted. However, the engineers persevered, bringing the frame back to the surface, readjusting it, and sending it back down to the opening with the help of a robotic arm.
Now firmly in place, the pipe is sucking up about 1000bbl of oil per day and channeling it into an oil tanker. This is only a portion of the total that is still gushing out, but BP is cautiously increasing the volume and hopes that soon they will able to draw up at least half of the spewing oil through this tube.
Later this week, the company is planning to attempt a tactic known as 'Top Kill' to block the gushing broken oil wells. This method involves shooting some heavy drilling fluids to counteract the pressure from the gushing oil and then immediately following it with a 'junk shot', which literally means blocking the opening with junk items like golf balls, cement, pieces of tires etc. If it works it will block the gushing oil temporarily, allowing the company to implement a permanent solution, which would involve drilling two relief oil wells. Stay tuned for some more good news.

- suvudavyjyneover 1 yearThe plan was really smart with the 'Top Kill' and the 'Junk Shot' it helped the Gulf Coast for the better.
- lupanikeninoover 1 yearit tells how people helped to keep oil out.It says that",yesterday, BL PLC,managed to cap one of the wells."That is how it tells how people helped to keep oil out.
- tupojikunuruover 1 yearWOW sooo helpful!!!!!!
- kibygykazizaover 1 yearI think oil is dangerous, and we should find ways to get rid of it. According to the 3rd paragraph of the text" the company is planning to attempt a tactic known as 'Top Kill' to block the gushing of broken oil wells." This shows how BP PLC. has tried to help get rid of oil.
- rijewutojolaover 1 yearThe BP helped with oil in the ocean by attaching a pipe into the ocean with a robotic arm. The pipe sucks in about 1000bbl of oil a day and putting it into an oil tanker. Since some broken oil pipes still have oil coming out of them the BP is trying a tactic called "Top Kill" so the broken oil pipes are blocked and oil doesn't come out of them.
- motonitubileover 1 yearthis helped alot
- zylosemuseteover 1 yearI learned that oil spills are bad.I also learned that they can harm animals. The last thing I learned is that people actually have attempted to stop it.
- darisizytofiover 1 yearIt severely helped by taking out some of the oil and transferring it onto somewhere it'll be used. This is a great advance, and I think that eventually all of the oil will be gone.
- rurufopitahyover 1 yearit is good that they are pumping 1000 bbl of oil out.
- sesetujefadaover 1 yearThis article seems interesting, it shows that there is a way to stop oil from spewing out, and polluting the ocean. This shows that any type of junk item or trash could stop it. It is stopping it with trash but it still solves a problem even worse than trash.
