Asian Elephant 'Toys' Around With Lizards

Madhuri, an Asian Elephant that resides in India's Corbett National Park has figured out a new way to keep herself entertained - Getting hold of live lizards and tossing them around like toys - for days on end!

And, he is quite picky about the kind of lizards he selects - From the abundant population of the reptiles in the park, he only picks up monitor lizards, grasps the tail firmly in his trunk and swings them around. Then, just to tease them, he places them back on the ground and catches them again, before the stunned lizard can scamper off!

Jagdeep Rajput, who took these amazing pictures said in his entire 20-year career as a photographer, he has never seen anything this bizarre or cool!

Corbett National Park is India's oldest national Park. Established in 1936, the national reserve is home to not just these elephants, but also, the critically endangered Bengal tiger. Thousands of people visit the reserve each year to admire the fauna and to go on 'elephant safaris' - which entails riding on the majestic Asian elephants and traversing deep into the forests in the hope of getting a glimpse of a tiger.
