While the notion of a 'paperless' society has been floating around ever since the first computer was invented, the reality is far from that. Though we all try to consume our media on-line, there are times when we just have to print things out - And now, thanks to this handy dandy 'Little Printer', we may not feel as guilty about doing so.
As the name indicates, it is truly a small box-like device which prints on equally small paper - Similar to the one used by cash registers. And, if that's not enough, the 'Little Printer' is also quite smart.
All the user has to do is hook it up to a wireless connection and then, with the help of a smartphone, configure what content he/she wants to receive - This can range from news to pictures to crosswords and even, reminders from a personal calender. The smartphone will scour the Internet for the requested content and send it to the printer to store until the user is ready to print. The printer can also be used to send messages to other printer users.
There are also no ink cartridges to replace - That's because this nifty device is fitted with a compact inkless, thermal printer that works by selectively heating regions of special heat-sensitive paper.
In development for the last six years, the Little Printer is the first in a series of similar wireless smart devices that is in the works from London-based design firm, Berg. The company expects to release a Beta version of the Little Printer in early 2012 though, there is no indication on how much it will cost.
