For people with gluten allergies, being surrounded by delicious-looking (normal) bread is not usually an option. However, thanks to Israeli artist Debbit Nitzan, everyone can now enjoy the doughy treat - Not to ingest, but use as an alarm clock, radio or even computer mouse!
A Masters student in Industrial design at Jerusalem's Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design, the artist begins by baking fresh bread. Then, she hollows it out and installs the working gadget in the space. To make the alarm clock, she simply removed the electronics from inside the clock and placed them in the hollowed portion of a freshly baked and toasted white bun - Yum!
Using this simple technique, the Israeli has created an assortment of working electronic gadgets that are sheathed in toasted bread and organized by meal course - From breakfast, all the way to dinner.
Of course, these are not electronics that can be sold in stores. That's because they have a shelf life of only 3 days after which, the bread starts to turn a little moldy. On the plus side though, how cool would it be to have a bedside clock that not only wakes you up, but also, turns into breakfast, once its job is done!
