On January 20, 2025, Donald Trump was sworn in as the 47th President of the United States. He is only the second President to serve non-consecutive terms since Grover Cleveland in 1893. At 78 years and seven months old, Mr. Trump is also the oldest president. He surpassed former President Joe Biden, who was 78 years and two months old when he took office in 2021.
Due to freezing temperatures, the inauguration ceremony was held inside the US Capitol rotunda. Chief Justice John Roberts gave the oath of office to President Trump, who used both his personal Bible and the historic Lincoln Bible. Just minutes earlier, Vice President JD Vance was sworn in by Justice Brett Kavanaugh.
In his speech, the incoming US leader promised Americans, "The golden age of America begins right now. From this day forward, our country will flourish."

After the inauguration, President Trump joined other officials at the US Capitol for a three-course lunch. The meal is usually followed by a parade down Pennsylvania Avenue. However, the event had to be canceled due to the frigid weather. Instead, the President met with supporters at the Capital One Arena.
In the evening, President Trump and the First Lady attended three inaugural balls. These formal gatherings allow new Presidents to address supporters and the American public. The celebrations ended on January 21, 2025, with a prayer service at the Washington National Cathedral.

Born June 14, 1946, Mr. Trump was raised in Queens, New York. He is the fourth of Frederick and Mary Anne Trump's five children. Mr. Trump graduated from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 1968 with a degree in economics. He then joined his father’s real estate firm, eventually taking over in 1971.
Unlike most Presidents, Mr. Trump had no prior experience in public office when he launched his campaign for the Presidency in 2015. His candid approach resonated with many Americans, helping him secure the electoral votes needed to become the 45th President. He has now returned to lead the nation for a second time as the 47th President of the United States.
