Coming To A Bus Stop Near You - A Rooftop Garden

As cities become increasingly congested, people are coming up with innovative ideas to add some greenery. First there were the small community gardens, then came the rooftop gardens - Now, NYU graduate student, Marco Castro Casio has taken that concept even further, by suggesting gardens atop buses.
While each rooftop is expected to have just 340 square feet of garden space, Marco figures that if the entire fleet of 4.500 buses in New York City converted, it would add up to a substantial 35 acres of rolling green. This would not only help reduce some carbon dioxide emissions and mitigate the urban heat island effect, but also, look aesthetically pleasing!
To prove to people that the idea is not as far-fetched as it sounds, Marco has built a prototype above a Bio Bus. While the garden only covers a small area at the rear of the rooftop, the bus has been roaming the streets of New York City, for the last five months and even traveled as far as Ohio. Marco is hoping that he will be able to gather enough support that will help his Bus Roots project become a reality. We wonder if car rooftops will be next!
