Girls Rule In The 2010 'Smelliest' Sneaker Contest!

For the last two years, the coveted 'Smelliest Sneaker in America' award has been won by boys. In 2008, it was 15-year-old Benjamin Russell who took the honor, while in 2009 it went to seven-year-old Joshua Boothe. However, this year the tables have turned - not only is the winner a girl, but so is the runner-up!

The winning 'stinker' came from 11-year old Trinette Robinson, whose $12USD Payless sneakers, beat out eight other finalists, by looking almost as disgusting as they smelled. According to the Connecticut resident, her formerly white and pink sneakers, that sported frayed seams, and soles that were barely hanging on, had seen plenty of action - track, girl scout camps and even a penguin plunge in the Special Olympics.

As a reward for not taking care of her sneakers, (make sure mum sees this!), the sixth-grader took home $2,500USD, a trophy, a year's free supply of odor-eater products and, a free trip to New York City to see The Lion King on Broadway. Best of all, her sneakers will be preserved for eternity at the company's Hall of Fumes!

The trophy for the second 'Smelliest Sneaker' was won by Madilynn Taylor from West Jordan, Utah. Her formerly beautiful white sneakers had played tennis, soccer, gone on long walks and hikes and even fishing. They had been so offensive, that they had long been banned from her house and relegated to the garage.

Now in it's 35th year, the annual sneaker contest, which is organized by Odor Eaters, a company that manufactures foot odor products, is held in the small town of Montpelier, Vermont. The eight-finalists, winners from regional contests, ranging from six to sixteen, all had one thing in common - really smelly sneakers!

The judges which include 'Master Sniffer' George Aldrich, a chemical specialist for NASA Space missions and Rachel Herz, a professor at Brown University, look for sneakers that are in really bad condition and most importantly, smell really awful.
