Before I read this article, I never thought about the name of Columbus Day. But after, I realized that the name of Columbus Day should be changed. First of all, Columbus didn't really 'discover' the Americas. There were Native Americans living there. He was just the first person from outside the Americas to go to the Americas. Second of all, when Columbus came to the Americas it wasn't a happy time for the Native Americans living there. He immediately started killing hundreds of innocent, peaceful Native Americans living there. It says in the article, any Native Americans that survived were inslaved and forced against to dig in mines and work in plantation. Therefore, Americans should be ashamed that they are celebrating this horrible holiday. That's why the name should be changed to Ingenious People's Day.
