And You Thought Your Speeding Ticket Was Steep!

For those of us living in the USA, a speeding ticket usually entails a hefty fine and traffic school. However, in some parts of Australia, Poland, Israel and South America, officers have the right to impound the car. In Iran, it may even land the offender in jail!

What is worse is that the car gets taken, even when it is being driven by someone other than the owner. In Perth, Australia, a doctor recently lost his $200,000USD Lamborghini, for a few weeks, when a mechanic decided to take it for a joy ride. But at least, he got it back.

That unfortunately is not going to happen to technology entrepreneur, Michel Perridon, whose $3.5mmUSD Bugatti Veyron, was impounded by the Dutch traffic police for doing double the speed limit -160km/hr in a 80km/hr zone. That's because the laws in Holland, allow the police to keep the car forever, if they deem it as suitable punishment.

If you have no sympathy for his reckless driving, you will, once you realize that the senior Mr. Perridon was not even behind the wheels - His 20-year old son, Thurs was! His excuse? He was being chased down by an aircraft on the runaway, while leaving the airport. We wonder how dad reacted to that!

On the bright side, Mr. Perridon does have another Bugatti and, can now claim the title of receiving the world's most expensive speeding ticket. Also, given that the Bugatti Veyron can reach top speeds of up to 350km/hr, driving at 180km/hr should not really be called speeding, should it?
